Familiar and new individuals joined MCIT in late 2017: Jeff Hentges, property/casualty claims representative; Nick Anderson, underwriting specialist; Julie Range, underwriting technician; Paul Hajduk, risk management consultant; Jerry Conway, property/casualty claims representative; Stephanie Selisker, property/casualty claims representative; and Tom Kolthoff, property/casualty claims representative.

The MCIT staff roster was nearly complete as 2017 drew to a close with the hiring of seven individuals. Most of the positions represent new positions created as a result of MCIT’s assuming property/casualty and underwriting duties previously provided by third-party administrator Meadowbrook Insurance Group.

Property/Casualty

MCIT hired four property/casualty claim representatives. Jerry Conway, Jeff Hentges and Stephanie Selisker all previously worked on the MCIT program for Meadowbrook Insurance Group and became MCIT employees in November.

  • Conway has 16 years of experience working as a claims representative for the MCIT program, and nearly 40 years in the insurance industry.
  • Hentges started working on the MCIT program as a claims representative in 2013. He has worked in insurance for 23 years after a 10-year career as a paralegal and legal specialist.
  • Selisker has worked on the MCIT program as a claims representative for five years. She began her claims career in 1985 after working in law enforcement.

Tom Kolthoff is a new hire for the MCIT property/casualty claims unit. He has 11 years of experience as a property and liability claims representative. Most recently, he worked as a claims investigator for Xcel Energy’s legal department. Kolthoff joined MCIT in October.

MCIT Director of Claims Joe Rieder says, “We are fortunate to have retained three of the Meadowbrook claim representatives who have worked for many years on the MCIT program. Their familiarity with MCIT and our members, combined with their understanding of how counties function and handling public entity claims has been valuable as MCIT rolls property/casualty claims functions into its operations. Tom, with his experience and skillset, has already proven to be an excellent addition to the team.”

Underwriting

The underwriting team retained two former Meadowbrook employees who had worked on the MCIT program, Nick Anderson and Julie Range. Anderson is the MCIT underwriting specialist. He has worked on the MCIT program since 2010. Range is an MCIT underwriting technician and has worked on the MCIT program since 2002.

Anderson analyzes and rates members’ exposures to determine eligibility for coverage. He also reviews and analyzes data from members and investigates discrepancies to calculate an appropriate contribution for each member. Range issues certificates of coverage and change endorsements, helps members maintain the accuracy of their property and auto schedules, and assists members with the renewal process.

MCIT Underwriting Manager Gary Severson says, “We are pleased that Julie and Nick have joined the MCIT staff. Their experience and wealth of knowledge, as well as their established relationships with members, is an invaluable asset to MCIT. Their continued efforts in underwriting support our commitment to provide excellent service to MCIT members.”

New Risk Management Consultant

In addition to filling positions created as a result of the MCIT reorganization, MCIT hired Paul Hajduk Nov. 30 as a risk management consultant. He has an extensive background in risk management, loss prevention and insurance. Hajduk has worked for Fortune 500 companies, a small nonprofit and was a small business owner.

Hajduk has skills that members will be able to leverage, including contract indemnity review, and training material development and presentation.

MCIT Director of Field Services Kevin Balfanz says, “Hajduk’s skillset is a great match for MCIT’s goals to service member’s risk management needs. His customer service beliefs also match MCIT’s member-centric philosophy.”

More Positions to Be Filled

MCIT will be hiring two more individuals in early 2018: one property/casualty claims representative and one underwriting services technician.
