Risk Management Workshops: Virtual Series Continues, Watch Recordings

The last three virtual risk management workshop are scheduled in October and November at no cost to members. The sessions previously broadcast are available to watch on demand through the MCIT website.

The workshops provide practical tips members can apply to the workplace immediately. Visit to register for each event separately. Workshops are about one hour.

Key Employment Risks for Small Employers
Oct. 26, 10:30 a.m.
When managing employment risks, small employers in the public sector often have different challenges than their larger counterparts. This session identifies the employment issues facing smaller government employers and laws to which they must comply. Strategies and tips for managing these exposures are explained. This workshop is created for those who fill the human resources function at a small employer (entities with fewer than 50 employees).

Ethics and Public Purpose Doctrine for Public Entities
Oct. 27, 1:30 p.m.
Following ethics and the public purpose doctrine is key to maintaining the public’s trust in the organization and ensuring that business is conducted properly. This session explores these areas and provides practical tips for ensuring that employees act ethically and follow the doctrine every day. This session is designed for administrators/coordinators, executive directors, department heads, managers and human resource professionals

Managing Performance with Positive Communication
Nov. 16, 1:30 p.m.

Systemic interactions in the workplace and teaching positive communication strategies to manage job performance are examined. Supervisory scenarios are shared and ways to respond are discussed. Attendees have the opportunity to ask questions. This workshop is for anyone who is in a position to supervise others.

  • Risk Management Best Practices for Motor Vehicles: Best practices for motor vehicles discussed include laws and regulations with which members must comply, MCIT coverage and other techniques.
  • Protect Your Property: Make the Most of MCIT Coverage: This session discusses the key points for protecting property under property, inland marine, electronic data processing and auto coverages. The discussion also highlights the importance of maintaining accurate property schedules.
  • Strategies to Reduce Common Injuries to Employees: This workshop identifies and provides strategies to reduce injuries to employees due to slips and falls, ergonomics, safety attitudes and law enforcement training.
  • Make Telecommuting Work for Employer and Employee: This session identifies major risks of telecommuting, ranging from supervision to business security, and includes ways to mitigate them while keeping the focus on outcomes of the work.
  • Resilience for Managers: Leading the Way: Strategies to increase resilience for managers, and prevent compassion fatigue and burnout are discussed. Methods for how to make them work in real life are presented. Attendees are encouraged to create their own resilience plan.
