When employee-owned technology is used for work purposes, public employers and employees are open to various risks even if the intent is to be more efficient at work. This resource examines some of these risks, including data retention, data privacy and security, and wage and hour concerns. This resource focuses on smartphones, although many of the concepts presented may also apply to employee home computers, laptops and tablet computers. This resource is not intended to be an exhaustive review of the subject, but rather concentrates on some of the most obvious concerns surrounding this emerging risk.
