Checklist for Recognizing Slip, Trip and Fall Hazards

Help prevent and lessen winter slip, trip and fall incidents by using the below Step Wisely program Checklist for Recognizing Slip, Trip and Fall Hazards. This checklist addresses seasonal and nonseasonal hazards across a member’s facilities.
Facility managers, safety committees, administrators and department heads will find this checklist helpful in identifying hazards in the workplace. The checklist has areas for noting corrective action and space for notes.
The checklist includes items for these areas:
- General work environment
- Aisles and walkways
- Stairs, stairways and ramps
- Floor and wall openings
- Elevated surfaces
- Ladders and scaffolding
- Parking lots and sidewalks
The Step Wisely Program
MCIT’s Step Wisely program helps make slip, trip and fall prevention efforts easy for its members. Slip, trip and fall incidents are particularly prevalent during Minnesota winters, but other nonseasonal hazards are present in the workplace.
In fact, injuries due to slip, trip and fall incidents are in the top five of the most frequently reported workers’ compensation claims made by MCIT members.
Providing your employees and the public information to help them make safer behavior choices could keep your employees from being injured and save your organization significant costs, time and grief related to those injuries.
