Program for Reducing Workplace Injuries, Illnesses

The MCIT-created Work Wisely program helps members foster a positive culture of safety. When all people of an organization embrace and value safety, the frequency and severity of workplace injuries and illnesses decrease.

The Work Wisely program helps members build and support a positive safety culture:

  • Encourage each employee to become a safety advocate.
  • Boost the safety mindset of employees.
  • Improve safety behaviors.

Work Wisely is a growing initiative that encourages general safety behaviors that apply to all types of work and highlights specific hazards and their solutions.

Drive Wisely: Encourage Safer Driving Habits

A large portion of member employees drive while on the job. Although an everyday task, it poses a significant safety risk. MCIT offers a variety of tools for members to educate and encourage staff about safer driving behaviors, in particular:

  • Defensive driving techniques
  • Deer-vehicle collisions
  • General roadway safety

Safe Driving Saves Lives, Protects Property

Defensive driving goes beyond following traffic laws and procedures. It involves anticipating situations, rather than reacting to them, and making safe, well-informed decisions based on road and environmental conditions.

Defensive driving means understanding a vehicle’s capabilities and limitations, and maintaining control while maneuvering it away from hazards.

MCIT Offers No-cost Defensive Driving Training for Members

The defensive driving training offered to members through MCIT is designed for those employees who drive as part of their job duties on behalf of the member organization.

MCIT offers two formats for defensive driving training: online and onsite. The options are provided through Minnesota Safety Council at no charge as part of MCIT membership.

Deer-vehicle Collision Prevention

Help reduce the number of employees who collide with deer while driving on the job or limit the severity of the collision by using the MCIT-provided awareness materials. Deer-vehicle collisions can cause major damage to autos, as well as injure occupants.

For maximum benefit, use materials during the fall and early winter when deer are more active and deer-vehicle collisions are more frequent.
