Easy Solution for Bubbled Carpet Tripping Hazard
Carpet that is glued to the floor may bubble in spots, posing a tripping hazard for employees and the public. These bubbles can be caused by improper installation, spilled solvent or cleaners that dissolve the glue.
To deal with this situation, Carver County’s Maintenance Department has developed a simple and effective method for flattening bubbles in glued carpet:

- Take a carpenter awl to punch a small hole in the carpet bubble.

- Fill a seasoning injector (syringe for use in cooking roasts) with carpet seam sealer.

- Insert needle of the syringe in the hole cut in the carpet.

- Inject carpet seam sealer under the carpet bubble in a 360 degree arc.

- Place a weight on top of the carpet bubble until the sealant dries.
Carver County’s Maintenance Department has been using this method for years with great success. The seasoning syringe’s needle provides a large enough aperture through which carpet seam sealer can pass but one that is small enough to minimize a cut in the carpet.
