Type Like a T-Rex: Avoid Discomfort from Computer Work

Type like a T-rex cartoon artwork. T-rex typing at laptop. Pterodactyls flying around.

To relieve discomfort from using a computer, employees just need to type like a T-rex! Help reduce workplace discomfort by using the Work Wisely Type Like a T-rex awareness materials.

  • Consider introducing the program during a staff meeting by playing the short video and passing out the popup handout
  • Follow up with emails and postings to the intranet and hanging the poster around the office

Use the video to introduce staff to ergonomic best practices to prevent or alleviate discomfort from keyboarding. Consider viewing the video during a staff meeting, during employee onboarding, posting to the intranet or emailing a link to staff.

Text: Type Like a T-rex! Illustration shows t-rex dinosaur using correct posture while using a keyboard. Tips for how to avoid discomfort while typing are provided.

Place posters near workstations and high-traffic areas around the office, such as next to coffee pots, water stations and refrigerators.

Members may request to have printed materials sent to them.

Pop-up table tent of Type Like a T-rex standing on desk near keyboard

This handout can be made into a popup table tent. Great for an eye-catching reminder at employees’ desks, or it can be left flat and tacked up on an employee’s bulletin board.

Request to have popup table tents sent to you.

The jpeg image file can be used anywhere you can insert an image, such as on the employee intranet, emails, employee newsletter, computer lock screen.

How to Share Videos

The animated videos available to MCIT members as part of MCIT’s loss control and risk management services can be shared with member employees in two ways. See instructions below.

Screen shot of embedded video with airplane icon boxed in top right corner1. Locate the video you want to add to your intranet site . Click on the paper airplane icon in the upper right corner of the video.

Screen shot of where to copy embed code from an online video2. Click the blue “Copy” box to capture the embed code.

Copied embed code3. Paste the embed code into the code of the intranet page where you want the video to appear (see above). The embed code looks something like this: <iframe src=”https://player.vimeo.com/video/111111111” width=”640” height=”360” frameborder=”0” allowfullscreen></iframe>

This allows you to provide a link to the animated videos to employees that takes them to view the animated videos online. You could post the links on the entity’s intranet site or distribute in e-mails, for example.

Suggestion: For the most impact, hyperlink a screen shot image of the video’s title screen to increase the visual appeal.

  1. Follow steps 1 through 3 above for capturing the embed code.
  2. Paste the embed code into a text file.
  3. Delete extraneous text as shown here: <iframe src=”https://player.vimeo.com/video/111111111” width=”640” height=”360” frameborder=”0” allowfullscreen></iframe>
  4. The remaining text is the URL (link) for the video at the MCIT online player. Use the link to connect employees to the video.
